“A talented and patient teacher”

Why me?

You are getting personal tuition and guiding from a trained teacher and creative practitioner - not just an award winning photographer (although I have a few awards too). I previously taught in the arts to degree level and now work with other photographers in a professional editorial capacity. I have decades of outdoors experience. But the session really isn’t about me - it’s about you. Some people are looking for skills or creative development, others are more focused on eye-catching or unusual locations. The itinerary is flexible and I can provide an authentic wild camp experience if you'd like. It’s your photographic journey - I’m there to facilitate.

Cost?

I am trialing a tiered model in 2024/5. Those on a regular income are invited to pay more. There's a reduced rate for those with more limited means. A tiered model allows me to work with those who would not otherwise have access to arts mentoring, and do additional photographic work in the community. I hope this goes some way to sharing the joy of outdoors photography more widely.
Regular rate: £260 per person per day.
Reduced rate: £170 per person per day.
I focus exclusively on teaching and guiding with individuals or small groups that book together. This keeps the learning bespoke and our environmental footprint low. Discounts may apply for groups and multiple day bookings.

“David’s knowledge of the area is astounding”

“Your passion is contagious. Thankyou for contributing to the rebirth of photography in my life”

Where and when?

I work across Highland Scotland, depending on your time, travel arrangements and of course the weather. Let me know when you want to come, and we’ll arrange a booking. We often begin before dawn and finish after dark. I'm not clock watching - you have my undivided attention.

What will you need?

You'll need to bring your camera, spare cards and batteries, plus outdoor clothes, footwear and some snacks. A tripod and some graduated filters can be provided if you don't have them. Most of all, bring curiosity. I work with people at every level, from total beginners to very experienced - there are no wrong questions.

Overnight trips?

For trips of 2 or more days, we can also wild camp. This allows time to explore the locations properly, catch sunset and sunrise, experiment with night photography and embed the learning, as well as soak up the atmosphere and relax. Camping equipment, food and transfers can be arranged at little or no extra cost.
